H1: Specialist deep cleaning and disinfection
A letting agent in Clifton called us last autumn after their regular cleaner had already “deep cleaned” a two-bed flat on Whiteladies Road. The new tenant moved in, started sneezing within a day, and refused to unpack. We went in with HEPA filtration and UV-C inspection. The carpets were full of dust mites. The bathroom extractor fan had a visible layer of mould spores behind the grille. The kitchen kickboards hadn’t been pulled out in years.
That’s the gap between a regular deep clean and a specialist one. We don’t clean around things. We move them, open them, pull them out, and clean behind them.
If your home needs a proper reset, call us on 07985 505061. We can usually book within three to five days, sometimes sooner.

When a Normal Deep Clean Isn’t Enough
Most cleaning companies offer a “deep clean” as their top tier. It usually means a longer version of a standard clean. More time, same tools.
That’s fine for a house that gets cleaned every week and just needs a bit of extra attention. It’s not fine when:
You’ve been ill. Norovirus, flu, COVID. Pathogens live on hard surfaces for days. Soft furnishings and carpets harbour them for longer. A regular clean doesn’t kill them. Hospital-grade disinfection does.
You’re moving into a property someone else lived in. You don’t know what’s been left behind. Dust mite colonies in mattresses and carpets. Pet dander embedded in upholstery. Bacteria in grouting. The place might look clean and still trigger allergies from day one.
Your home hasn’t had a deep clean in years. Grease builds up behind cookers. Limescale hardens inside pipes and around taps. Dust settles in places you’d never think to check: on top of kitchen cabinets, inside light fittings, behind radiators. A domestic vacuum and some spray cleaner won’t shift it.
Someone in your household has asthma or allergies. Dust mites are the single biggest indoor allergen trigger in the UK. They live in carpets, bedding, upholstered furniture and curtains. Standard vacuuming picks up maybe 50% of them. Our industrial extraction units pull out what your vacuum leaves behind.
What a Specialist Deep Clean Includes
We clean things most companies don’t even look at.
Kitchen. Oven interior (including door glass and racks). Behind and underneath the fridge, cooker and dishwasher. Inside cupboards and drawers. Extractor hood and filter degreasing. Splashback grout. Kickboard removal and cleaning behind units. Bin area sanitisation. Limescale removal on taps and sink.
Bathrooms. Tile grout scrubbing and treatment. Silicone mould removal or flagging for replacement. Behind and around the toilet (including the base). Inside the cistern where limescale and bacteria collect. Shower screen descaling. Extractor fan cleaning. Plug holes and overflow outlets.
Bedrooms. Mattress vacuuming with HEPA filtration. Skirting boards, tops of wardrobes, door frames, light switches. Inside fitted wardrobes. Windowsills and tracks. Radiator fins (where dust accumulates and circulates).
Living areas. Upholstery vacuuming with industrial extraction. Behind and under sofas, TV units, bookcases. Light fittings and ceiling fans. Curtain and blind dusting. Skirting boards and dado rails.
Throughout. All internal doors (both sides, top edges, handles). All plug sockets and switch plates. Air vents and grilles. Internal window frames and glass. Stair spindles and handrails.
Not every property needs all of this. We walk through with you first and agree exactly what’s needed.
Our Process
Step 1: Walk-through and scope
We visit or ask for photos. Every property is different, so we need to understand the layout, the condition, and what you’re trying to achieve. Moving in? Post-illness? Annual reset? The goal shapes the job.
Step 2: Prep and protection
We move furniture away from walls, cover anything that needs protecting, and set up our equipment. For whole house deep cleans, we work room by room so there’s always a clear space.
Step 3: Top-down cleaning
Ceilings and light fittings first, then walls and doors, then surfaces, then floors. Gravity does half the work. Cleaning the floor first and then dislodging dust from above is a waste of time, but it’s what most cleaners do.
Step 4: Industrial extraction
Carpets, rugs and upholstery get treated with our truck-mounted or portable hot water extraction units. These machines pull out what domestic vacuums can’t: embedded dust mites, pet dander, skin cells, pollen and fine particulate. The difference in the rinse water is honestly shocking, even in homes that look clean.
If you’ve got hard floors, we use industrial scrubbing machines rather than mops. A mop pushes dirty water around. A scrubber lifts it out.
Step 5: Hospital-grade disinfection
We apply hospital-grade disinfectant to all high-touch surfaces: door handles, light switches, taps, toilet flush handles, worktops, appliance controls. For post-illness cleans or properties that need full sanitisation, we can treat every hard surface in the property to the same standard used in NHS clinical settings.
Step 6: Final inspection
We check every room against our scope list. Anything missed gets done before we leave. You get a walkthrough to confirm you’re happy.

Why BCH and Not a Regular Cleaning Company
Personally, I think the phrase “deep clean” has been watered down to the point where it means almost nothing. Every cleaning company offers one. Most of them are just doing a standard clean with more time allocated.
Here’s what separates us:
Industrial extraction, not domestic vacuums. Our hot water extraction units operate at temperatures and pressures that domestic carpet cleaners can’t match. They remove allergens that regular vacuuming leaves in place. If you’ve got asthma or allergies in the household, this is the bit that actually makes a difference.
Hospital-grade disinfectants. The products we use are tested against a specific panel of pathogens including MRSA, E. coli, norovirus and influenza. They’re not the same as antibacterial spray from Tesco. They meet EN 14476 and EN 1276 standards for virucidal and bactericidal activity.
IICRC certification. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification is the industry standard. It means we’ve been trained and examined in cleaning science, not just given a mop and sent out.
£2M insurance through AXA. If we damage something, you’re covered. Most domestic cleaners have either no insurance or basic cover that won’t pay out for specialist work.
25 years doing this. We’ve cleaned properties across BS1 through BS16 and beyond. Victorian terraces in Redland. New builds in Filton. Listed buildings in Clifton. HMOs in Fishponds. The approach changes with the property. Experience is knowing what each one needs.
We’re not the right fit for everyone. If you want someone to come round weekly and keep on top of things, a regular domestic cleaner is probably better value. We’re the ones you call when the place needs a proper reset.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a specialist deep clean cost?
It depends on the size of the property and the condition. A one-bed flat in reasonable condition: roughly £250 to £400. A three-bed family home that hasn’t had a deep clean in a while: £500 to £900. Whole house deep cleans for larger properties can go higher. We quote after seeing the property or detailed photos. No hidden charges.
How long does a whole house deep clean take?
A one-bed flat usually takes four to six hours with two cleaners. A three-bed house: six to ten hours. Larger properties or those in poor condition might need a full day or two days. We’ll give you a time estimate when we quote.
What’s the difference between a deep clean and a regular clean?
A regular clean maintains a home that’s already clean: hoovering, wiping surfaces, cleaning bathrooms and kitchens. A specialist deep clean reaches everything that gets ignored during regular cleaning. Behind appliances, inside cupboards, grout lines, extractor fans, mattresses, embedded carpet dirt. We use industrial equipment, not domestic tools.
Is a deep clean worth it before moving into a new home?
Yes. We’d say this is one of the most common reasons people book us. It doesn’t matter how clean the previous occupants were. Allergens accumulate in carpets and soft furnishings over time. Grease builds up in kitchens. Limescale forms in bathrooms. Starting fresh in a properly sanitised home makes a genuine difference, particularly if anyone in the household has allergies or asthma.
Can you deep clean a house after someone has been ill?
Absolutely. Post-illness sanitisation is a specific service we offer. We use hospital-grade disinfectants that are effective against norovirus, influenza, COVID-19 and other common pathogens. We treat all surfaces, not just the obvious ones. Soft furnishings and carpets get extracted, hard surfaces get disinfected. It’s the same standard used in healthcare settings.
Do you deep clean rental properties between tenants?
We do, and we work with several letting agents across Bristol. A specialist deep clean between tenancies protects the landlord (deposit disputes over cleanliness are common), protects the new tenant (allergens and bacteria from the previous occupant), and protects the agent’s reputation. For a more thorough turnover, see our end of tenancy cleaning service.
Will a deep clean help with dust mite allergies?
It’s one of the best things you can do. Dust mites feed on dead skin cells and thrive in carpets, mattresses and upholstered furniture. Our industrial HEPA extraction removes the mites, their eggs, and their droppings (which are the actual allergen trigger). Several clients have told us their asthma symptoms improved noticeably after we cleaned. We can’t guarantee medical outcomes, but the science on reducing dust mite exposure is well established.
