H1: Deep cleaning Bristol

A property manager on Whiteladies Road sent us photos of a two-bed flat in January. Previous tenant had lived there for four years. The place had been “cleaned” before handover. In the photos, the kitchen looked fine. Bathroom looked fine. Carpets looked OK.

We went in with a UV torch and moisture meter. The kitchen extractor hadn’t been cleaned once. The carpet backing in the hallway was holding moisture from a slow leak under the bathroom. Behind the fridge, there was a layer of grease and food debris thick enough to scrape off with a blade.

That’s the problem with surface cleaning. It looks done. It isn’t.

If your Bristol property needs more than a wipe-down, call us on 07985 505061. We can usually book within three to five days, faster if it’s urgent.

Bristol Properties Need Deeper Cleaning

Bristol’s housing stock makes surface cleaning even less effective than usual.

The city’s full of Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Solid walls, timber floors, old plaster, sash windows with deep tracks that collect decades of grime. These properties hold dust, damp and allergens in ways that modern builds simply don’t. A one-bed flat above a shop on Gloucester Road has different cleaning needs than a new-build apartment in Harbourside. We treat them differently.

Personally, I think people in Bristol put up with a lot before calling someone like us. They’ll live with musty carpets, sticky kitchen cupboards, bathroom grout that’s gone grey. It’s just background noise until something forces the issue: a new baby, an asthma diagnosis, a tenancy change, or a post-illness reset.

We’re based on Southmead Road in BS10, about 15 minutes from the city centre down the A38. We cover every BS postcode and most of the surrounding area. For properties in Clifton, Redland, Bishopston or the central postcodes, we’re usually there inside 20 minutes.

Student Housing Deep Cleans

Bristol’s student rental areas keep us particularly busy.

Redland and Cotham (BS6) are the heart of it. Shared Victorian houses with five or six bedrooms, one bathroom, and kitchens that take a hammering. We’ve cleaned student houses on Cranbrook Road, North Road and around the top of Whiteladies where the carpets haven’t been properly extracted in years. The amount of embedded dirt in a student hallway carpet is genuinely startling. Not the tenants’ fault. A domestic vacuum just can’t keep up with six people using the same corridor every day.

Stoke Bishop (BS9) gets less foot traffic per room but the properties tend to be larger. More carpet, more upholstery, more surfaces. A full deep clean on a 5-bed near the Downs takes a team of three most of a day.

Fishponds and Stapleton (BS16) are UWE territory. Lots of HMOs. Landlords here often book us between tenancies, but we also get calls from tenants who’ve been living with grimy kitchens and mouldy bathrooms for a full academic year and want a reset before exams.

A word of honesty: if your student house just needs a quick once-over before a party, we’re probably overkill. A local domestic cleaner will sort that. We’re the ones to call when the oven hasn’t been cleaned since freshers’ week and the bathroom extractor fan sounds like it’s dying.

What a Deep Clean Covers

We won’t repeat the full room-by-room checklist here. That’s on our main deep cleaning page. But the short version for Bristol bookings:

Kitchens. Everything out, everything cleaned behind. Oven interior, hob, extractor, inside cupboards, kickboards pulled off, splashback grout, appliance surfaces, bin area. Bristol’s hard water means limescale builds up fast around taps and sinks. We deal with it.

Bathrooms. Grout scrubbing, silicone mould treatment, descaling, behind the toilet, inside the cistern, extractor fan, overflow outlets. If you’re in an older Bristol property, the chances are the bathroom hasn’t been properly deep cleaned since the last renovation.

Carpets and floors. Industrial hot water extraction on carpets and rugs. Not a Rug Doctor. Our machines operate at higher temperatures and pressures, pulling out embedded allergens, dust mites, pet dander and whatever else has been ground in over time. Hard floors get industrial scrubbing, not a mop.

Everything else. Skirting boards, light switches, door handles (both sides), radiator fins, window tracks, internal glass, air vents. The stuff nobody remembers until someone with a checklist walks through.

Post-COVID and Post-Illness Deep Cleans

This was a big part of our workload from 2020 onwards, and it hasn’t stopped. We still get regular calls from Bristol households after COVID, norovirus and flu outbreaks.

The difference between a standard clean and a post-illness sanitisation is the disinfection standard. We use hospital-grade products tested to EN 14476 (virucidal) and EN 1276 (bactericidal). Same standard used in NHS clinical settings. Every hard surface gets treated. Soft furnishings and carpets get hot water extraction at temperatures that kill pathogens in the fibres.

We cleaned a family home near Durdham Down after three household members had norovirus. The parents had done a thorough clean themselves. Three days later, the fourth family member got sick. Norovirus survives on surfaces for up to two weeks. Standard cleaning products don’t kill it. Hospital-grade disinfectant does.

If someone in your household has been ill and you want the property properly sanitised, not just wiped down, that’s exactly what we do.

Deep Cleaning Costs in Bristol

Every property is different, but here’s a rough guide for Bristol:

PropertyTypical Price Range
Studio / 1-bed flat£250 to £400
2-bed flat or house£350 to £550
3-bed family home£500 to £800
4-bed house£700 to £1,000
5-bed+ / large property£1,000+

Post-illness sanitisation adds roughly 20-30% to the base price, depending on the property size and the level of disinfection needed.

Carpet extraction is included in our deep cleans where carpets are present. It’s not an add-on.

Prices depend on condition more than size. A well-maintained 3-bed in Henleaze costs less than a 2-bed in Easton that hasn’t been deep cleaned in five years. We quote after seeing photos or visiting. Fixed price, no hourly rates.

We’re not the cheapest option in Bristol. You can find domestic cleaners who’ll call it a “deep clean” for half these prices. What you’ll get is someone with domestic tools spending longer on a standard clean. If that’s enough for your situation, save the money. If your property genuinely needs industrial extraction, proper degreasing and hospital-grade disinfection, that’s us.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a deep clean take in Bristol?

Depends on the property. A 1-bed flat in good condition: four to five hours with two people. A 3-bed family home: six to nine hours. A large student HMO in Redland or Fishponds that hasn’t been deep cleaned in years? A full day, sometimes into a second morning. We’ll give you a time estimate when we quote, and we don’t leave until the job’s done.

Is a deep clean worth it if I’m moving into a Bristol rental?

We’d say yes, especially in older properties. The previous tenant’s clean (or their cleaner’s) rarely reaches the level we work to. Carpets hold allergens from the last occupant. Kitchen grease stays behind appliances. Bathroom bacteria lives in the grout. If anyone in your household has allergies or asthma, a move-in deep clean is one of the most useful things you can spend money on. Bristol’s rental market moves fast, and there’s often pressure to move in quickly, but a day’s deep clean before you unpack makes a real difference.

Do you deep clean student houses in Bristol?

All the time. Redland, Cotham, Fishponds, Stoke Bishop, Gloucester Road. We clean student properties year-round, though summer and September are our busiest periods. Group bookings for houses of four or more tenants get a better rate. Call and ask.

Can you do a post-COVID deep clean in Bristol?

Yes. We use hospital-grade disinfectants effective against SARS-CoV-2 (and most other common pathogens). Full surface disinfection plus carpet and upholstery extraction. We’ve done hundreds of these across Bristol since 2020. The process takes a few hours for a flat, most of a day for a larger property.

What’s the difference between your deep clean and an end of tenancy clean?

An end of tenancy clean is designed to pass an inventory clerk’s inspection. It’s thorough on visible surfaces, inside cupboards, ovens, bathrooms. Our deep clean goes further: industrial carpet extraction, hospital-grade disinfection, behind appliances, radiator fins, air vents, mattress treatment. There’s overlap, but a deep clean is about hygiene and allergen removal, not just visual cleanliness. If you need both, we can combine them. See our end of tenancy cleaning Bristol page.

How soon can you book a deep clean in Bristol?

Typically three to five working days. Sometimes sooner if you’re flexible on timing. For urgent situations (post-illness, move-in deadline), call us on 07985 505061 and we’ll do our best to fit you in faster. Being based on Southmead Road means we don’t lose time travelling across the city.

Do you offer regular deep cleaning or is it a one-off service?

Mostly one-off. A proper deep clean resets the property, and then regular domestic cleaning keeps it there. Some clients book us annually or twice a year for a full reset, especially families with young children or allergy sufferers. A few landlords book us between every tenancy as standard. But we don’t do weekly cleans. That’s a different type of service.
