H1: About Bristol Cleaning Heroes
I started this company with a second-hand van and a Yellow Pages ad. No IICRC certificates on the wall. No industrial extractors in the back. Just a willingness to take on the jobs other people didn’t fancy.
That was 25 years ago. The van’s been replaced four times. The Yellow Pages ad became a website. But the principle hasn’t changed: if it’s dirty, dangerous or disgusting, we’ll deal with it.

How It Started
The first few years were general cleaning. Offices, end-of-tenancy jobs, the odd deep clean after a house party that got out of hand. Bread-and-butter work. We were based out of Southmead, covering BS10, BS9 and a few streets into Filton.
Then a letting agent on Gloucester Road asked if we could handle a flat where the previous tenant had left raw chicken in the fridge. For three months. In summer.
We said yes. We shouldn’t have, really. We didn’t have the right equipment or the right chemicals. We got through it with rubber gloves, bin bags and a refusal to breathe through our noses. The letting agent was happy. We were traumatised.
But that job changed things.
The Shift to Specialist Work
After that fridge, the calls started to change. Letting agents passed our number around. A property manager in Clifton asked if we could handle mould in a basement conversion. Then a flood in Bedminster. Then a landlord in Kingswood whose tenant had left needles in the bathroom.
Each job taught us something. Bleach doesn’t kill mould roots. Domestic dehumidifiers can’t dry a flooded floor. Carpet stains set differently depending on pH. You can’t remove soot with a standard cleaning product.
So we invested. Industrial extractors, commercial dehumidifiers, ozone generators, thermal foggers, HEPA filtration, anti-microbial chemicals. We got IICRC certified. We took out proper insurance with AXA: £2 million professional liability, because the work we do carries real risk.
Personally, I think the cleaning industry has a problem. Too many companies say yes to everything and then send someone with a spray bottle and a cloth. We got tired of being called in to fix those jobs. So we stopped competing with those companies and started doing only the work they can’t.
What We Believe
We don’t have a mission statement printed on the wall. But if we did, it’d say something like this:
Tell people the truth. If a carpet’s beyond saving, we say so. If the mould’s going to come back unless the landlord fixes the damp, we say that too. Sugarcoating doesn’t help anyone. It just means we get called back in six months.
Use the right kit. A mop and bucket will sort most things. The jobs we do aren’t most things. We’ve spent tens of thousands on equipment because domestic-grade tools don’t cut it when you’re extracting water from a flooded restaurant or decontaminating a property after an unattended death.
Don’t take jobs we’ll do badly. This is the one that surprises people. We turn down work. If someone wants a weekly office clean, that’s not us. If someone needs a window cleaner, we’ll give them a recommendation. We’re good at what we do because we don’t spread ourselves thin trying to do everything.

Our Team
We keep the team small on purpose. Everyone who works for us has been on difficult jobs. Nobody learns this trade from a training manual.
Our crew are DBS checked, COSHH trained, and comfortable working in environments that would make most people walk straight back out. Crime scenes, hoarding properties, sewage floods, fire-damaged buildings. The work isn’t glamorous. The people who do it well are rare.
We don’t subcontract. When you book Bristol Cleaning Heroes, you get Bristol Cleaning Heroes. Not a random team we found on the morning of your job.
Where We’re Based
Our base is at 290-294 Southmead Road, Bristol BS10 5EN. We’ve been in Southmead since the start. It puts us about 15 minutes from the city centre, 20 from most of south Bristol, and within easy reach of the M5 for jobs in Bath, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.
For emergencies, we go further. We’ve done crime scene work in Exeter, flood jobs in Gloucester, mould removal in Swindon. If it’s urgent and you’re in the South West, call us.
One of our longest-running clients is a housing association that manages properties across BS3 to BS16. They started with one mould job in Knowle. That was eight years ago. They’ve not used anyone else since. (They did try once. They came back.)
What We Won’t Do
This bit might seem strange on a business website. Most companies want to cast the net as wide as possible. We’d rather be honest.
We don’t do regular domestic cleaning. No weekly cleans, no ironing, no tidying up. If you need that, there are good companies in Bristol who do it well. We’re not one of them.
We don’t compete on price. Our equipment costs money. Our chemicals cost money. Our insurance costs money. If someone quotes you half what we do, they’re not using the same kit. That’s not a criticism; it’s just a fact.
We don’t rush to fit more jobs in. Some jobs take a day. Some take three. A mould removal in a Victorian terrace on St Michael’s Hill took us five days last year because the damp had spread further than anyone expected. We stayed until it was done properly.
We don’t ghost you after the job. If something’s not right, call us. We’ll come back. It’s covered by our guarantee and it’s the obvious thing to do, but you’d be surprised how many companies make it difficult.
